KKR is investing in Coastal GasLink, despite concern expressed for sovereignty in decisionmaking for Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs, ongoing lawsuits and concerns about climate, missing and murdered Indigenous community members, and impacts from the pipeline on lands, air, and waterways.

TC Energy, formerly Transcanada, is infamous for the defunct Keystone XL, as well as numerous catastrophic spills and explosions that have impacted communities across North America.

From Dawson Creek to Kitimat, Coastal GasLink threatens over 20,000 square km of unceded Wet’suwet’en territory of multiple clans and nations.

Once this fracked gas reaches the refineries in Kitimat, it will be converted to a liquid form for export across the Pacific to Asia by LNG Canada, powered by the Site C Dam, another project that will have devastating ecological impacts.

The project worked closely with Supreme Court of British Columbia to gain use of hundreds of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to terrorize the Indigenous land defenders seeking to protect their homelands. All of the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs have unanimously opposed Coastal GasLink and served the project an eviction notice.
